Speaker Ayaz Sadiq Pays Tribute to Jammu Martyrs on Their Day of Remembrance

Islamabad: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq paid tribute to the martyrs of the 6 November 1947 tragedy on Jammu Martyrs’ Day.
He said the sacrifices of the Jammu martyrs are an unforgettable chapter in the history of the Kashmiri people’s struggle for freedom.
He described the large-scale massacre of Muslims in Jammu and the forced migration of hundreds of thousands of people as a painful tragedy in human history.
According to him, the Kashmiri people continue to struggle today for their basic rights, freedom and the right to self-determination.
Ayaz Sadiq called on the international community to take effective notice of human rights violations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and to play its role in securing a just and peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute in line with the resolutions of the UN Security Council.
He said the Jammu tragedy is not merely a historical event but a painful reminder of atrocities against the Kashmiri people and of efforts to change their identity and demographic character.
He said India’s unilateral and illegal action of 5 August 2019 was part of efforts to end the special status of the occupied territory and alter its demographic identity, which has severely affected the basic rights and identity of the Kashmiri people.
He also drew global attention to illegal detentions, restrictions on political leadership and curbs on freedom of expression.
The Speaker said a just and peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute is essential for lasting peace, stability and prosperity in South Asia. He reiterated that Pakistan will continue to extend moral, political and diplomatic support to its Kashmiri brothers and sisters.
He concluded by praying for the Jammu martyrs to be granted a high station in Jannat ul Firdous, and expressed the hope for freedom, peace and prosperity for the Kashmiri people.
