SOHBATPUR: Deputy Commissioner Sohbatpur Farida Tareen formally inaugurated the five-day anti-polio campaign in Sohbatpur district, starting on 21 September, by administering polio vaccine drops to a child. Officials of the Health Department, heads of the district polio team and other concerned officials were present on the occasion.
Deputy Commissioner Farida Tareen said polio was a dangerous and incurable disease, but timely and complete vaccination could protect children from it. She urged parents to ensure that all their children under five years of age were given the drops during every polio campaign, so that they could be saved from lifelong disability.
She directed the polio teams to ensure access to all rural and remote areas and settlements across the district during the campaign, and to make sure no child was left without the protective polio drops. She also stressed effective monitoring of the performance of field teams, timely departure of the teams and the administering of drops to children door to door.
The Deputy Commissioner said the district administration, the Health Department, parents, teachers, religious scholars and all sections of society had to play their full role in eradicating polio. She appealed to the public to cooperate fully with the polio teams, saying a safe and healthy future for children was the shared responsibility of all, and that no negligence or carelessness in the anti-polio campaign would be tolerated.
