GWADAR: A meeting of the District Education Group was held in Gwadar under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Naqeebullah Kakar. Additional Deputy Commissioner General Dr Abdul Shakoor, District Education Officer Zahid Hussain Baloch, District Education Officer (Female) Zara Khatoon, Government Girls Degree College Principal Sabeen Baloch, Government Boys Degree College Principal Naseer Ahmed Baloch and other officials and stakeholders attended.

The meeting reviewed the functioning of government schools across the district, teachers’ attendance and shortages, the situation after the cancellation of attachments, and the problems facing teaching in remote areas. It was directed that teaching in no school should suffer because of a shortage or absence of teachers.

Action against absent teachers

The Deputy Commissioner strictly directed that teachers’ attendance be ensured in high, middle and primary schools. He said that male or female teachers who did not report for duty regularly would have their absence recorded, their salaries stopped and departmental action taken under government rules. Where continued absence was proven, legal requirements should also be completed for their dismissal from service. He directed the district education officers, male and female, to submit a list of teachers who were continuously absent and to ensure effective monitoring of attendance.

According to the real-time school monitoring report presented at the meeting, 72 teachers and staff were found absent during inspections of various government schools in September 2026. Of these, 61 relate to functional schools and 11 to non-functional or closed schools. The report identified 22 employees as absent for a long period, 11 whose attachments were cancelled and who did not report to their original schools after the holidays, and 6 who were continuing duty through substitutes. A further 33 employees were absent at the time of inspection.

The meeting was told that data on schools and teachers was being digitised and that transfers and postings would in future be made under a transparent digital system. This would help end unnecessary attachments and ensure effective deployment of teachers. The Deputy Commissioner directed immediate steps to ensure the availability of teachers, the functioning of schools and continuity of teaching in remote and hard-to-reach areas. He said the continuity of students’ education was the first priority.
