Sindh to seek NCCIA help to curb fake news

Directives have been issued to monitor fake news and to devise an effective media strategy.

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon chaired an important meeting of the Information Department. Secretary Information Kashif Gulzar Sheikh, Director General Information Moiz Pirzada and all directors attended.

Sharjeel Inam Memon made it clear that no attempt to harm any person or institution through false and misleading information would be tolerated.

The senior minister directed that help be taken from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency to curb fake news and misleading information. Fake news on mainstream and Social Media will be monitored daily with the help of modern Technology.

Mr Memon said an effective monitoring system would be set up in the Information Department to identify and verify fake news and to counter it in time. Cooperation between the Information Department and the NCCIA would be increased further to counter fake news.

He said the NCCIA’s help would be sought for legal action against those who create and spread fake news. The Sindh government’s narrative, he said, is based on peace, tolerance, inter-provincial harmony and national unity.

Mr Memon said additional steps should be taken to make the Sindh government’s narrative more effective and stronger. He said the Information Department should use modern media to further highlight the government’s positive and constructive narrative.

The senior minister said representatives of all sections of society should be made part of the Sindh government’s narrative. He directed the Information Department to focus on effectively promoting the government’s positive narrative, along with monitoring fake news.
