ISLAMABAD: Rana Sanaullah, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, has said the government remains in “off the record” contact with some leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He did not disclose their names.

Speaking on Geo News programme “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath”, he said the contacts take place from time to time over the telephone and during sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate.

According to Rana Sanaullah, the names of these “friends” cannot be given because it could create problems for their credibility within their own party.

He said that once the talks take a concrete shape, the matter could move towards formal, on-the-record negotiations.

Asked what was stopping the informal contacts from turning into formal talks, he pointed to differences within the PTI over the negotiation process.

He said that discussions in PTI meetings had centred on the claim that the earlier negotiation process was “sabotaged”.
