Ending the war is up to the US, Iran does not want to continue fighting: Pezeshkian

In an interview with Fox News, Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran was ready to resolve issues through talks. However, he said Iran would not accept pressure or the language of force.

The Iranian president said there was no need to kill one another when issues could be resolved through dialogue. He said the war had been imposed on Iran as a result of provocations by Israel.

Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran was ready to make an agreement with former US president Donald Trump to end the war. He asked why an agreement had been ended only two weeks after it was signed.

Pezeshkian said that if the present US government wanted to reach an agreement within the framework of international law, Iran was ready for talks. He said it made no difference to Iran whether an agreement was reached before or after the US midterm elections.

Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. The talks between the sides did not lead to any immediate progress.

Masoud Pezeshkian also rejected US allegations that Iran sponsors Terrorism. He said the United States accuses of Terrorism any country it wants to destroy.

He said Iran had not attacked any country and had only acted in defence of its own territory.

Speaking about Yemen’s Houthi movement, the Iranian president said the Houthis were responsible for their own actions and did not take instructions from Tehran. He said Iran did have contacts with the Houthis, but there was no organised relationship between the two.

Dr Pezeshkian said Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was fully capable of running the government and leading the country.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia claimed on Thursday to have intercepted ballistic missiles fired by the Houthis. Saudi officials had earlier issued a warning for several areas, including Makkah.

According to the report, the Houthi actions against Saudi Arabia and their advance in the coastal areas of the Red Sea have further raised tension in the region. Fears have also been expressed that the global oil supply through the Gulf and Red Sea routes could be affected.
