Only bureaucracy stayed immune from accountability in Pakistan: Khawaja Asif

Khawaja Asif said Pakistanis may hardly realise that bureaucrats have also ruled the country. Former Governor-General Ghulam Muhammad was a bureaucrat. Former Prime Minister Muhammad Ali was also a bureaucrat. Former presidents Iskander Mirza and Ghulam Ishaq Khan were bureaucrats too. All this happened at a time when power apparently lay with politicians.

He added that nobody blames the bureaucrats. He said the incompetence and mutual differences of politicians gave space to the bureaucracy. If politicians reform themselves, reform and accountability will come to the bureaucracy automatically, he said.
