TEHRAN: Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh has said that peace in the region requires an end to war on all fronts. According to him, fighting on any front means the war is continuing across the whole region.

In an interview with the Lebanese television network Al Mayadeen, as reported by an Iranian news agency, he said Iran was committed to ending Israeli attacks on Lebanon. This aim was included in the Islamabad memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, agreed in June.

According to him, the United States and Israel violated the Islamabad understanding by attacking Iran and Lebanon. He said Israel could not be trusted to keep its promises.

Saeed Khatibzadeh described the US war against Iran as illegal under international law. He said Iran was committed to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He added that Iran had also proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days.
