Bangladesh will consider joining Makkah pact if invited, says foreign minister

Speaking in parliament, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman said Bangladesh viewed the Makkah pact positively and would consider joining if it received an invitation.

Khalilur Rahman said that expanding the Makkah pact would be a step to defend the global Muslim community. He said the pact was an internal matter of Muslim countries and there was no room for any concern about it.

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye are the founding countries of the Makkah pact. The doors have been kept open for other Muslim countries to join. Under the pact, an attack on any one country will be considered an attack on all member countries.

Several countries, including Egypt, have so far expressed willingness to join the Makkah defence pact.
