US losses disclosed so far are only the tip of the iceberg, says Araghchi

Abbas Araghchi, on the social media platform X, rejected the impression among US officials that Iran is defenceless. Citing a report of the US Department of Defence, he said hundreds of US military sites were damaged or destroyed and dozens of aircraft were affected.
The Iranian foreign minister called the information that has emerged about US losses “only the tip of the iceberg”. He said Iran would release more details at the appropriate time.
According to a report issued on 14 September by the Inspector General of the US Department of Defence, Iranian attacks had damaged or destroyed hundreds of buildings and other installations at US military bases in several countries of the Middle East by 30 June 2026. The report also mentions damage to US aircraft and drones and a reduction in weapons stocks.
According to the report, US spending during the war reached $33.4 billion. The US military used weapons worth about $22 billion.
Mr Araghchi rejected the US claims. He said the impression that Iran is defenceless is not correct. He said further information about losses and the war would be made public later. Some of his additional claims could not be fully verified independently.
