LAHORE: Sales of more than 230,000 books at Pakistan’s largest book fair, organised by the University of the Punjab, have set a new record, according to final figures.

In a statement, Punjab University Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali said that the sale of so many books was proof of people’s love of books.

He said that, in the age of artificial intelligence, the provision of affordable books would help promote reading habits. He said the book was a source of knowledge and its importance could never end.

He said such activities were essential to promote book culture, and that reasonable prices would help build a bond between young people and books.

Dr Muhammad Ali said people from all walks of life, from different parts of Pakistan, attended the book fair, and young people and children bought books with great enthusiasm.

This time, a full literary festival was also held at the book fair. It included launches of books by well-known writers of the country and a mushaira. Punjab University students were also given the chance to present their creations and business ideas.
