ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Whip Aamir Dogar has hinted that talks will resume in the coming days. Speaking to a private television channel, he said talks could resume in the next few days.

According to him, Salman Akram Raja has taken a firm stand on the 68 members who want a change of chief minister without the consent of the founding chairman. Mr Dogar said reports of internal differences in the party were baseless and that there were no differences within the parliamentary party.

He said full confidence was placed in opposition leaders Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas. Both, he said, have the backing of the founding chairman, and it was the party’s duty to stand with them.

Aamir Dogar said Sohail Afridi was the constitutional and legal chief minister with a two-thirds majority, and was chief minister with the confidence of the founding chairman. He said whoever becomes chief minister cannot do so without the consent of the founding chairman, and anyone attempting this would stab the party in the back.

He said Sohail Afridi was the chief minister and would remain so. Some people, he said, wanted to create further rifts in the party. For now, he said, fascism was at its peak and there was no precedent for the oppression and brutality against Tehreek-e-Insaf. More than 10 members of the National Assembly are in jail.

He said the party believed in talks and hoped the process would begin in the coming days.
