Government taking steps to promote tourism across country: PM Shehbaz

In his message on World Tourism Day, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said that today he paid tribute to those associated with the tourism sector in Pakistan and around the world, and to the curiosity and love of travel of tourists.

He said that in tourism, attractive natural scenery, ancient historical monuments, civilisational heritage and diverse cultural colours are the main driving factors. By the grace of Allah, Pakistan has bright prospects in the tourism sector, with its unmatched natural landscapes, magnificent civilisational and cultural heritage, and historical and religious sites.

He said the government is working to promote tourism in the country, improve tourism infrastructure, and create employment and development opportunities for the local population and youth associated with the sector. The government is committed to presenting Pakistan to the world as a safe, attractive and competitive tourist destination.

Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s moderate weather, the refreshing climate of its hilly areas and its pleasant valleys have great potential to attract global tourism. He said the land of Pakistan is the custodian of civilisations thousands of years old, including the Indus Valley and Gandhara, and of a magnificent cultural heritage. In terms of religious tourism, Pakistan is home to historic and important holy sites for followers of Sikhism, Buddhism and other religions.

The prime minister further said that the promotion of tourism at the national level leads to economic growth and good relations between countries. At the individual level, familiarity with diverse cultural colours plays an important role in developing human capabilities. Attention to tourism and recreation reflects a healthy mind and welcome priorities, he added.
