Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the introduction of community-based organisations to set up model villages. It has been decided in principle to involve assistant commissioners, community health mobilisers, union council secretaries, headmasters and other stakeholders in the rural project.
It was also agreed to give members of the assembly the responsibility of monitoring rural development projects. The Chief Minister directed that drainage and sewerage problems in Punjab villages be resolved on a priority basis and that village streets be paved and made attractive.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif said she could not see people suffering from broken streets and dirty water. She said providing drainage, sewerage and paved streets in every village and rural area was the government’s responsibility.
The Punjab Chief Minister said people in villages also had a full right to resources. She said the model village project was very close to her heart and she wanted to change the condition of every village.
