China urges Iran and United States to step back from escalation and return to talks

On the occasion of a meeting, China urged the United States and Iran to avoid further escalation and return to talks.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China did not want tension in the region to rise further and spread to Yemen and the Red Sea.

Wang Yi called on the United States and Iran to hold meaningful talks on pending issues. He also called on them to restore the negotiating framework on the basis of the consensus reached under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding.

He said the ongoing dispute between Washington and Tehran was not in the interest of any side.
