75 years of Pakistan-Germany ties a strong foundation, says Senate Chairman Gilani

ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani has stressed the need to further promote economic cooperation, investment, education and parliamentary contacts between Pakistan and Germany. He said 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries provide a strong foundation for a mutually beneficial and forward-looking partnership.

He was addressing a ceremony held in Islamabad on Germany’s national day. German Ambassador Anna Lipp, diplomats and other distinguished guests attended the ceremony.

The Senate Chairman extended congratulations to the German leadership and people on behalf of Pakistan’s Parliament, government and people. He described German Unity Day as a symbol of national solidarity, resilience and shared prosperity.

He said the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries are built on mutual respect, trust and cooperation, and have been further strengthened by the contributions of Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Dr Ruth Pfau.

German cooperation and investment opportunities

Yousaf Raza Gilani appreciated Germany’s continued cooperation with Pakistan, particularly its support for development sectors, environmental initiatives, women’s empowerment and human development.

He highlighted the importance of Germany’s support for Pakistan’s continued participation in the GSP Plus scheme. He described special economic zones, renewable energy, information technology, industrial development and value-added manufacturing as key opportunities for German investment and business partnerships.

On people-to-people contacts, he welcomed the growing presence of Pakistani students at German universities. He expressed the hope that issues related to delays in student and family reunification visas would receive due attention.

He welcomed cooperation in the movement of skilled workers. He also highlighted the potential for collaboration in technology, research and industrial development, including in the defence sector in line with applicable laws and regulations.

Stressing the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, the Senate Chairman said regular contacts between the two parliaments and close consultation on regional and global issues could help promote peace, stability and prosperity.

He invited the German leadership to visit Pakistan. He expressed confidence that continued contacts and cooperation would turn the long-standing relations between the two countries into a stronger and more effective partnership.
