SOHBATPUR: A meeting of the District Health Committee (DHC) was held here under the chairmanship of Sohbatpur Deputy Commissioner Farida Tareen. It reviewed in detail the overall performance of government health facilities across the district, the medical services provided to the public, the attendance of medical staff, the supply of necessary furniture to newly established Basic Health Units (BHUs) and other issues in the health sector.

The meeting discussed several matters, including the provision of furniture and other facilities to the new BHUs, making BHU Noorpur functional 24 hours a day, action against employees absent from duty, scrutiny of monitoring reports and field visits by officers. It was stressed that all concerned officers should fulfil their responsibilities to make health services effective at the district level, and that a coordinated strategy should be adopted to resolve the public’s medical problems.

BHU Noorpur and staff attendance

Deputy Commissioner Farida Tareen directed that the necessary furniture and other basic facilities be provided to the new Basic Health Units so that they could be made fully functional and medical services could be offered to people at their doorstep. She specifically directed practical steps to make BHU Noorpur functional 24 hours a day. She said timely access to health services was the basic right of the public and no negligence or lapse in this regard would be tolerated.

She directed that the attendance of doctors, paramedical staff and other employees be ensured at all government health facilities across the district. She said it was the duty of government employees to perform their duties during the prescribed hours and give patients timely medical aid. Absent staff should face action under the rules and regulations, she said, so that discipline was maintained and the public did not face difficulties in getting treatment.

The Deputy Commissioner directed officers to make regular field visits to health facilities, personally review the available facilities, staff attendance and administrative matters, and take steps to remove at once the problems and shortcomings identified in monitoring reports. She said that merely preparing reports was not enough; they had to be acted upon and bring real improvement.

She stressed that the decisions of the District Health Committee meetings be implemented seriously and that the authorities concerned promote mutual coordination and cooperation. She said the district administration’s priorities included providing quality medical facilities to the public, keeping government health facilities functional and removing administrative shortcomings in the health system.

The meeting reaffirmed that all departments concerned would perform their responsibilities effectively to make the health sector in Sohbatpur district more functional, provide the necessary facilities at basic health units and ensure timely medical services for the public.
