QUETTA: On the orders of the provincial government, staff of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) and traffic police carried out a joint crackdown on illegal “Toddy” car services carrying passengers at Tor Nasir Cross and Koela Phatak. The operation was held under the supervision of RTA Quetta Division Secretary Naimatullah Tareen and SP Traffic Saddar Circle Asim Shah.

During the operation, three Toddy cars and a Suzuki pickup were impounded for overloading and charging extra fares. Vehicle papers, route permits, driving licences and passengers’ national identity cards were also checked. Legal action was taken against drivers carrying passengers without identity cards. In addition, 21 vehicles were fined for overcharging and overloading.

Naimatullah Tareen said that, in light of the clear orders of the Balochistan government, foreign nationals would not be allowed to travel without legal documents and the relevant permission. He said action would continue without discrimination against those involved in overloading, illegal carriage of passengers, plying vehicles without route permits and charging extra fares.

On the occasion, illegal Toddy car services running on various routes, including Quetta to Chaman, Pishin, Loralai and Qila Abdullah, were also inspected. The drivers were directed to avoid extra fares and overloading.
