Load shedding and medical facilities: jail administration briefing
In a briefing, Jail Superintendent Muhammad Ali said prisoners face severe hardship during long power outages in summer and the daily routine of the jail is disrupted. He said installing a solar system was therefore essential. He said the jail has a dispensary, but a room for the outpatient department (OPD) must also be built and a laboratory set up for necessary tests to provide better medical care.
Deputy Commissioner Virender Lal said providing prisoners with basic facilities, proper health and hygiene arrangements and a better environment was a priority of the district administration. He said prisoners, too, are entitled to basic human needs and proper medical facilities.
He said that in the first phase, efforts would be made to install a solar system at the District Jail under the Balochistan Special Development Initiative (BSDI). The OPD room, laboratory and other needs would also be reviewed and steps taken with the help of the departments concerned. The deputy commissioner directed the jail superintendent to submit a comprehensive written report on all problems and proposed measures to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, so that it could be placed before the senior officials concerned.
