GWADAR: Member of the Provincial Assembly Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch has said that providing medical, technical and practical skills alongside curricular activities in educational institutions is an important need of the time. He was addressing a ceremony held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office to mark the completion of the first phase of medical and technical training for girls at the Skill Education Healthcare Centre at Government Girls High School Shambay Ismail, Gwadar. The centre was set up in collaboration with the Education Department Gwadar, the Education Support Programme (ESP), UNICEF and the European Union.

He said the Skill Education Healthcare Programme would enhance the abilities of the girls and enable them to deal with medical emergencies, save lives and serve society effectively. He said the joint efforts of the provincial government, the Education Department, UNICEF and the European Union were laying the foundation for positive and lasting change in the education system of Balochistan. He said such programmes were giving young people skills in practical life, public health, emergency management and humanitarian service, rather than confining them to curricular education.

The MPA said it was our greatest misfortune that we did not recognise the abilities within us in time, nor use them in the right direction. He said Almighty Allah had placed countless abilities in human beings, and by using them, positive change could be brought about in personal life and in the whole of society. He said it was necessary to overcome our shortcomings, hone our abilities and play an active role in the progress of the country and the nation.

He said the successful training at the Vocational and Skill Training Centre had created practical employment opportunities for matriculation-pass girls of the area. He said several girls who received the training had also started working at Civil Hospital on a temporary basis, which was clear proof of the programme’s practical success.

Deputy Commissioner Gwadar Naqeebullah Kakar, District Education Officer Zahid Hussain, Education Support Programme Manager Adil Nodezi and Headmistress of Government Girls High School Shambay Ismail Balqees Suleman also addressed the ceremony. At the end, certificates were distributed among the girls who had successfully completed the course, as well as those who had performed well in the Kangaroo competition test.
