Secretary School Education Department Balochistan Lal Jan Jaffar said that organising extracurricular activities is extremely important for highlighting the academic, scientific and sporting abilities of boys and girls.

Such competitions play an important role in fostering self-confidence, creative thinking, research and a spirit of healthy competition among the young generation.

He expressed these views while addressing the finals and prize distribution ceremony of the Inter-School Badminton Championship, Spelling Bee and Science Olympiad, organised by the Pakistan Children’s Academy Trust Quetta, as chief guest on Saturday.

Competition details

The ten-day competitions began on 28 October 2026 and concluded on 7 November. Several prominent educational institutions across Quetta took part enthusiastically.

In the competitions, 45 schools took part in the Spelling Bee, 35 schools in the Science Olympiad and 35 schools in the Badminton Championship. The badminton matches were held in girls’ singles, boys’ junior singles and boys’ senior singles categories, and a total of 355 boys and girls displayed their abilities.

Addressing the event, Secretary School Education Lal Jan Jaffar praised Begum Saqiba Rahimuddin’s farsighted vision and her lifelong services to the academic and co-curricular training of the young generation. He said that providing children with opportunities to take part in non-academic activities alongside their education is essential for their character building and future success.

Stressing the importance of science education in the province, he said that academic results in science subjects in Balochistan have historically been weak. He said that competitions such as the Science Olympiad help create curiosity, interest in scientific learning and a research inclination among students, and play an important role in drawing them towards the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

He extended heartfelt congratulations to the management of the Pakistan Children’s Academy Trust on successfully holding a well-organised and purposeful event.
