Ranbir Kapoor Says He Will Begin Directing Within Two to Three Years

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has revealed that he hopes to begin directing his first film within the next two to three years.
He made the remarks in a joint interview with BBC Asian Network, given during the promotional campaign for the film Ramayana, in which Sai Pallavi also appeared alongside him.
Ramayana: Part 1, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, was released worldwide on 5 November. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Yash plays Ravana, and Ravi Dubey plays Lakshman.
The 44-year-old said he had started writing a script a few months ago and that the creative process is very difficult. According to him, a director keeps thinking constantly, while an actor gives his shot and then waits for the next scene.
He said he is not confined to any particular genre, but wants to make a family-friendly, cheerful film based on everyday life themes. Among his favourite films, he named Life Is Beautiful, It’s a Wonderful Life and the films of Rajkumar Hirani.
Ranbir said he works only 100 to 125 days a year, which gives him time to write stories. He said this is the last decade of his acting career. He wants to complete Brahmastra 2, Animal 2 and the second part of Ramayana first, and then start directing. He added that he does not want to direct himself as an actor.
On his birthday last year, during an Instagram Live session, he had also said he wished to direct a film and that he had already started a writers’ room. His father, Rishi Kapoor, made the 1999 film Aa Ab Laut Chalen, on which Ranbir had assisted. His grandfather, Raj Kapoor, made films such as Awaara and Shree 420.
Ranbir Kapoor will next be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Love and War, alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, which is scheduled for release on 21 January 2027.
