Governor Mandokhel presents best performance awards at Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University

QUETTA: Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhel has said that if the province’s only women’s university is being given top priority, its students should also show their best performance and become number one. “We are determined to make this university better and turn it into a model university for the whole country,” he said.
Merit and honour
“On the basis of my forty-year political career, I have reached the conclusion that choosing the right person who truly deserves an honour is more important than giving the award. If the deserving person is not correctly identified, the award and the one giving it both lose respect and credibility. Upholding merit free from every kind of nepotism, along with honesty and impartiality, is what gives an honour its real dignity,” he said.
He praised the efforts of Vice Chancellor Dr Rubina Mushtaq and her entire team. He was speaking at the awards ceremony at the Women University, where he presented best performance awards to researchers, faculty members and administration officers.
Vice Chancellor of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University Prof Dr Rubina Mushtaq, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Zainab Bibi and Principal Secretary Abdul Nasir Dotani were present on the occasion. A large number of faculty members and students also attended.
Addressing the participants, Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhel said that in a society where those who work hard and serve are fully encouraged, ability and talent are promoted and hope replaces despair. He said this was the message of the ceremony: hard work, service and research in line with human needs are valued, and one person’s success becomes fresh inspiration for the whole institution. He said the present government could win the full trust of young people across the province only by bringing transparency to its performance and ensuring respect for merit.
The governor stressed that recognising another person’s exceptional hard work, service and ability without discrimination is itself a social service. He said an award is not merely an honour but a way of bringing before society the struggle of those whose services and creations often go unnoticed. He said it was a fact that a society that values its benefactors is the one that truly progresses.
He said success does not mean providing a comfortable life for oneself and one’s family, nor does it mean merely reaching one’s own goal. Real success, he said, means freeing society from ignorance, backwardness and exploitation, ensuring respect for the rights and powers of subordinates, and opening the way forward for the weaker sections. He said the best teacher is not one who merely has wide knowledge, but one who develops research, curiosity, and critical and creative thinking in students.
Message for researchers
“Similarly, the real importance of a successful researcher is determined by the positive and constructive effect of the work on society. I would therefore tell all the researchers present here to look for lasting solutions to the human challenges before us, instead of only increasing the number of research papers,” he said. Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhel said that when the work of a teacher, researcher or scholar is praised in time, it is not only recognition of past success but also an expression of trust in future abilities.
He said a distinguished award given today could inspire new research, an invention or social change tomorrow. Awards should therefore be seen not as the end of life’s journey but as the start of a new responsibility and new success.
Earlier, Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhel presented the best performance awards and inspected the stalls set up at the event.
