Trump says he could become Israel’s prime minister if Americans tire of him

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said in an interview with an American television channel that if the American people get tired of him, he could move to Israel and take over as prime minister. He said his approval rating in Israel stood at 99 per cent.
According to a report by Express, President Trump also spoke about the Republican Party’s defeat in the midterm elections. He accepted that the war against Iran was among the major factors that affected the election results.
However, he said the war against Iran was necessary, Iran could not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, and his government’s position on the matter would not change.
According to the report, in the midterm elections held on 3 November, the Democrats won a majority in both houses of Congress. This has increased the president’s political difficulties.
Meanwhile, there is concern in Israeli political circles over the US president’s announcement that he would stop $4 billion in military aid to Israel. The Israeli opposition has called the decision a major loss and demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
After the election results, political pressure on the Trump administration’s policies and its decisions on the Middle East is expected to increase further.
