ISLAMABAD: The new electricity tariff in the country is likely to be Rs27.30 per unit from 1 January 2027.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted its power purchase request for 2027 to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra). According to the request, the coming year will also remain heavy on electricity consumers.

Power purchase estimated at Rs3,439 billion

According to the CPPA request, the cost of power purchase in 2027 will be Rs3,439 billion. Of this, Rs1,914 billion will be paid as capacity payments.

The fuel cost of electricity in 2027 is estimated at more than Rs1,200 billion.

In addition, more than Rs70 billion will be paid as operation and maintenance cost and more than Rs248 billion as transmission charges.

Nepra to determine average price

The request states that the new tariff is likely to be Rs27.30 per unit from 1 January 2027. A second proposal puts the power purchase price at Rs25.88 per unit in the ideal case.

The CPPA has submitted six different proposals to the Nepra authority, on the basis of which the authority will determine the average price.
