KARACHI: Former caretaker federal minister Gohar Ejaz has said that bank deposits have risen sharply and have grown several times over in recent years. He said these deposits should be used for the country’s economic growth and invested in business and industrial activity.

In a statement, he said the business community should be given easy access to bank deposits. According to him, this would boost business and industrial activity, create jobs and keep the country’s economy moving.

Gohar Ejaz further said that faster economic activity would reduce the country’s debts and interest payments. He said bank deposits should not be used only to lend to the government.

He said bank deposits had doubled in the last four years. In September 2026, the deposits of commercial banks reached 40.83 trillion, compared with Rs21 trillion in September 2022.
